Taking out life insurance is often one of those things almost everyone needs but often don’t get around to taking it out.
Life insurance can be surprisingly inexpensive especially when you compare it to insuring your beloved pet against those dreaded vet bills. If you die during the period a mortgage, your family and loved ones could inherit your debts.
Term life insurance policies run for a fixed period of time (known as the ‘term’ of your policy) – such as 25 or 35 years.
These kinds of policies only pay out if you die during the policy. There’s no lump sum payable at the end of the policy term.
You wouldn’t want to make your immediate family responsible for your debts. But when you do not take out life insurance to cover your mortgage, that is essentially the reality. Whether its insuring your family can stay in their home or avoiding your parents having to service a debt, life insurance is always worth considering and may surprise you how little it can cost.
